Year: 2002-03

Set: Fleer Premium - Emerald (Rate)

Card: #EM116 Dajuan Wagner

“ DaJuan Wagner- or Dajuan, I've seen it both ways and I'm not sure what is correct- was destined for superstardom but injuries and disease destroyed his career. The only NBA player I know of who had his career ended by a colon disease...once scored 100 points in a high school game, a rare feat. Son of former player and T-Wolves GM Milt Wagner. The 2002-03 rookie class, while not considered a strong one, has a lot of sentimental value to me. My only good memories of 2002 are collecting cards and this year's rookies played a huge role in that. The Emerald parallel debuted in 1996-97 but then went away, it came back with this set. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ High School legend. Sucks that his health ended his career. ” -Young Kilo

“ I am normally not a big basketball card fan, but DaJuan , I like DaJuan. ” -uncaian

“ WOW.....I mean WHOA.....I mean WOE. ” -NJDevils

“ Kind of bland unless it is better in hand. SN is cool. A lot of wasted space on the back. ” -muskie027

“ I like Fleer. This premium design I don't. Reminds me more of a framed photo than a trading card. That is a bit ironic since trading cards are often just wallet sized photos. Anyway nice front photo, back is OK but too much blank space at the bottom. One year of stats because it was his rookie season. ” -captkirk42

“ Nice photo. Decent player whose NBA career ended when he had half of his colon removed. ” -switzr1

Milt Wagner was not GM of the T-Wolves, that was Milt Newton. My mistake.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I really liked the early 2000's Fleer Premium sets. It was something different at that time. They look so much better in-hand than they do in scans. But the surface is easy to scratch or damage in other ways, like the mid-90's SP cards, but the non-foil border made that concept much better. If UD, Panini or Topps brought this concept back in any of the 3 sports I collect, I'd be interested in them.

Amen to this. I'm relatively new to card collecting but from what I've seen I appreciate the 2000's Fleer (Premium) a lot. They indeed look better in hand than on the pictures. A sad ending to Wagner's career.

We Cavs fans never got to see how dynamic he might have been due to his health problems, but the team was so bad that they were able to get a dynamic player in the draft after this card's season.  I forget his name, though....
