Card: #34 Steve Young

“ I like the design of this card. ” -Brendan Barrick

“ was Steve Young under appreciated? as the 49ers QB after Joe Montana, he always seemed to have a Joe shadow over him, or am I misremembering? he's 7x pro bowl, 2x MVP, HOF, but he didn't get a ring as a starter, and Joe got 4. ” -abide

“ Wow I love this. I’m not familiar with Finest but this is really cool, they fit in a lot of details without obscuring the player or his name. ” -pugchump

“ When I sort my card scans I usually make them pretty small, small enough that I actually feel sine eyestrain if I do too much. If it's a card I'm not overly familiar with I sometimes can't tell what team it is. That would never be the case with these cards! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Finest sets are pretty nice. Just wish they would scan better. ” -MattyIce2014

“ From back when I liked the niners..... Young to Owens was an amazing combo. Great looking card. Didnt realize 2000 young was still playing. ” -parsley24

“ I always liked finest. Especially back then Cards looked nice and I believe they even had a peel off cover as well ” -mkb

“ Hey, something other than a non-sport RCotD for me! A bit awkward shot of Steve, but I still like it! I grew up a 49ers fan, even though I grew up in the Seattle area! Once the Hawks came along, my loyalty changed and been a homer Hawks fan ever since! But still always a soft spot for the Niners, despite being a division opponent since the change from AFC to NFC! ” -bkklaos

“ This card is so ugly it is actually nice . . . There's a throwback feeling to the image on the front, making it seem nostalgic even though it may not actually be . . .The back looks as if it has been run over several times by a bus . . . For some reason, there's something that feels "nice" about that . . . ” -georgecf

“ Man cards were really evolving during the late 90's early 00's. Perfect example. ” -Madden95

“ It has a cool look, but I am not sure I like it. ” -muskie027

There's a lot going on with this card but it has been laid out well. A good back to the card and a nice big image on the front, which would make a good poster image.

In response to the individual who brought up Young's resume and the perpetual shadow of Montana under which he played:  While he may not stack up to Joe Montana on rings, Steve Young was a two-time NFL MVP and also claimed a Super Bowl MVP when he and the Niners won SBXXIX over San Diego (1994 season).

I'm pretty sure the Chargers were convinced that Young won a SB as a starter.  Done in the first quarter.  MVP and SB MVP for the 1994 season.  These cards always look better in hand.

With what parsley24 said, Young actually retired in 1999, topps though I've noticed likes to print one cards of players one year after they retire.

Did I miss this card last week? I guess I did. As regulars know I am not a fan of "Finest" Usually too chromey for me. This set is not quite an exception, but it doesn't totally get the thumbs down. Looks nice at times, heck this scan looks OK, but the gridiron "graph paper" design rubs me a bit. Chrome and Foil esepcailly foil lettering rub me the wrong way.

Some. Stupid autocorrect.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
