Don Mattingly is the greatest player to not be in the Hall of Fame MLB. This set has so many great cards! I have the whole set and feel lucky. It's a page turner.

I'd never looked up Mattingly's outfield numbers until now.

In 1983 he played 48 games in the outfield (RF and LF). In 77 chances, he had 72 putouts, 3 assists, and 2 errors. Not too shabby.

Comparatively, he played 42 games at first base that year. In 291 chances he had 278 putouts, 12 assists, turned 30 double plays, and committed only 1 error. By the time the next season rolled around it looks like the Yankees realized first base was the right choice.

Quite like the two photos on the front. They should try that again.

I always wanted to see Mattingly play in a World Series game. He was always one of my favorite players!

captkirk42, the box doesn't say "Tiffany" anywhere on it, it does say "Collector's Edition":

I only did a  quick search, but I don't see any Topps products with "Tiffany" actually printed on the packaging.  Where did that name come from?  I do see Fleer packs that mention a Tiffany parallel.

In the 1980s, the Topps set the was released in factory sets with high gloss was referred to as "Tiffany" sets by all the hobbyists at the time. Because of that, we leave it in parentheses. Collector's Edition is the proper name as seen on the packaging. When Fleer introduced it's equivalent set in 1987, it was actually released in tin boxes (in set form) and the only mention of the cards being different on the tin is "custom coated", but they became known as "Fleer Glossy" sets. Only later, when the Glossy cards were inserts, did they call them "Tiffany", and Topps was already done with producing their "Collector's Edition" at that point.

And as far as Junk Wax era goes...I might be wrong, but I think that kinda started in 1987 or maybe for sure 1988.  Sound right?  If that's the case then this isn't a Junk Wax era card.  Even so if it is, I too am a Yankee/Donnie Baseball fan and this is an iconic card for the fan base!!!!

but in a design similar to the '83 set not with the huge block lettering for the team that takes up so much space on the '84 design

One of my favorite sets of all time. The portrait photo in the lower left, the action photo front and center, and the bold team name down the left side. Not to mention the full career stats and fun facts on the back. It's sad Topps has been bought out by another company. Hopefully, they will keep the same designs.
