The mid-30s were a boom era for cards. This set is actually one of the worst as far as quality and design goes. But it does have striking appearance with the red and the way the drawing and lettering are done. Seems like back then nearly everyone had a nickname. If you go through the Cardinals and Tigers 34 World Series roster, there are more nicknames then not. Dizzy, Daffy, Ducky, Wild Bill, Pepper, Mickey, Jo-Jo, Goose, Schoolboy, etc. I think "Firpo" was because he resembled the boxer. And I'm not sure Fred appreciated it.

Generally, the condition I look for is: 1800s-1929 - G and up (1+)... 1930-1951 - VGEX and up (2.5+)..  1952-1967 - EX and up (5+)...  1968-1978 - EXMT and up (6.5+)...  1979-1994 - EXMT/NM and up (7.5+)...  1995-present - NM+ and up (8.5+)

Wow! What an ugly card to begin with. Cards in the 1930s were in awful condition.
