Reggie Jackson must have been involved in some scandal or something recently, because my 1969 Jackson had been my most expensive card, according to the prices on this site, at about $600. But now, just days later, it's listed for only $55! Damn it! Should have sold it for $600 when it was high. Aw, who am I kidding, I probably only could've gotten $300 for it. But I'm clearly terrible at speculating....

Speculating doesn’t work for me either. I have the 1990 Pro Set Fred Marion error card with the 49er’s belt hanging out. It used to value at a few hundred. I think more packs have been opened in recent years as the value has dropped to almost nothing. Should’ve ebayed that bad boy when I had the chance. Oh well.

Looks like somebody got a good deal!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I just posted a bunch of sales data from the last two weeks for the 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson. It looks like the ungraded cards average around $65, with several selling for over $100 in the last two weeks, and one for over $200. Depending on the condition of your card and where it could grade out, there are some examples of graded cards selling for well over $400. Two (PSA 8.5) cards sold for almost $4,000 each!
I hope you can find the find the value in your card. Otherwise, hold onto it until the rest of the world catches up.

I have begun the process of selling most of my collection on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/usr/k-lots). The rest will be practically given away. If you'd like to "rescue" a card from this fate, give me an offer. I'm currently only entertaining trades that help me downsize my collection or provide equitable cost/value for a card I will keep (see "Collects" in my profile). -Bob

I remember trading 50 1985 Topps Eric Davis cards for a 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson back in the day. I think I paid 35-cents each for them.

Y’all understand that I was kidding, right? One, I don’t speculate. You can; that’s fine. But I just collect. Two, I never trust the prices here. My Jackson was never worth $600. I even messaged the guy who put in a bunch of prices about a year ago, greatly inflating the value of my collection here. He said they were all legit prices.
I’m glad someone restored some sanity to the pricing. My Jackson might be worth $75, but that’s a stretch. Regardless, it stays in my collection.
Just having a little fun....

You have been here long enough to know the pricing here is a joke and should be taken with a grain of salt the size of a VW bug.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

I keep reading posts with people commenting that the prices on this site are "unreliable" or a "joke", but does it have to be this way? Accurate pricing could add another useful dimension to this site, especially for people who take the time to accurately upload their entire collections onto the site.
I'm still thinking through "suggestions" for the site admins about ways to legitimize the pricing. Some initial ideas, I've thought through are:
1. Requiring a user to have a card in their collection to post a price.
2. Price concurrence - a second user verifying the "legitimacy" of a posted price similar to picture uploads/cropping.
3. Automated pricing pulled from auction sites with validation by a user in the "Things to Do" section---"Is Card X (sold on auction site) the same as Card X (from your collection); if yes, then price is automatically calculated and posted.
With the fact that this site maintains years of history, it'd be nice for collectors to just log on and see a long history of the price of a card as opposed to just the last 90 days from the sale history of an online auction site. I'd be interested to hear what everyone else thinks about the efficacy of moving this site away from joke/unreliable prices towards a place with "fairly accurate" pricing.

The question then becomes what is the true price of a card.
I buy a card on ebay for $5, with free shipping.
I buy the same card on ebay for $2 plus $3 for shipping.
I buy the same card on ebay for $1 plus $4 for shipping.
And then I get another one for $4 plus $1 shipping.
What's the price of the card? $1? $5? Somewhere in between? Why?
