I'm very curious how members of this site store their large quantities of cards. Of course I’ve seen and use various sizes of corrugated cardboard boxes, but I’m wondering if anyone has used wooden boxes or maybe even leather or other material.
I have an idea for custom wooden boxes with ridges built in to use as separators, that I can adjust, as I get annoyed having to move sets from box to box as the collection grows or shrinks.
Anybody have any experience with this or know a reason I shouldn’t store in wood, leather, etc.

Never wood. Woods have tannins. They can stain your cards. Wood tannins are used to "tan" leather; stain them. Same reason not to use leather. They've been stained with tannins.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I’ve also been thinking about building some custom storage units. I wasn’t aware of the tannin issue though it makes sense. I would think if you sealed the wood with a polyurethane you’d be ok. Or maybe line the compartments with some flocking or plastic.

I would also think if you use a finish like polyurethane that the issues with using wood aren’t applicable anymore as the raw material is sealed underneath the finish.

I watched this video the other day on YouTube and thought these would make sweet card holders.

I keep it simple... Plastic shelves with two wooden dividers between each, supported by a 2x2 (6 per divider) perfet size for shoeboxes. I can fit 12 boxes per plastic shelf without stacking the boxes on each other. The shelves I have measure 18" x 36". Cut the wooden divider shelf to the same size, then notch out a corner on each to fit between the posts. Each 2x2 is 4 3/4" tall. Screw 1 on each of the outside corners and 1 in the middle (front & back) for center support. I'd include a picture, but I'm not registered on any file sharing site.

Xanadude, that sounds awesome. You should upload a picture to imgur, I don't think it requires an account and you can click "Hidden" to make private and share the link here. Sounds cool would love to see it!

Soon to reveal my vintage METAL LIBRARY CABINET, almost finished.
50x20x29. The drawers are 29" long, fits 2 rows of cards. Has push button sliding back holders. Also has label holders on each drawer front.
Not sure when this was built, but this is a 200ib+ cabinet like a brick __________!
Start looking around, these are all over the local sites etc. Wooden ones too.
