Reason I ask this is I collect Oakland Raiders cards...and the early 60s Fleer cards are their 'first' card, so shouldn't they ALL be labeled as RC? Even a few from the first few Topps years in the mid-60s would qualify as a RC, right? I just want to make sure I am not labelling my cards wrong.

I see your point. I checked out some of the Raiders in the 60 Fleer set. First guy, Blanch, did not have a card anywhere before this and I agree that he should have an RC next to his name but it doesn't. Probably others in this set would be the same.

If first card meant rookie, it would be the first year of playing for the whole team. A rookie is a player's first year. A first card is just that. Nowadays you don't really get that - it was back in the days when cards themselves were new that you got a lot of "first cards"

It's like the '86 Fleer Jordan. That's not his actual rookie card, but it's his first Fleer card. (FFC)

I would love to err on the side of just completely ignoring the "rookie card" issue and hoping it goes away. There are too many complicated and contradictory rules and opinions on what consistutes a rookie card to the point where it is almost irrelevant. The real question people aren't articulating is, "what is their earliest, most valuable card I might be able to invest in and sell for lots of money later?"

I'm with Clyde on this. The way the hobby has changed in recent years, the standards of the 80s don't really apply today. When "2014" football sets are still coming out after the Super Bowl, well into 2015, it's all pretty irrelevant.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

My opinion would be No. Despite Topps using RC on some cards. Bobby Roode probably had 500 cards in TNA, lots of Topps NXT cards, and then he wrestled on SmackDown and they started putting RC on his cards.
