Why are these images not removed and instead only say tagged as needing replacement? They should be removed for not following the guidelines.

Please contact Admin. Please.
I have already voiced my opinion, and I feel that if more voice theirs regarding this, the site's stance may shift again. This is all I will say on the matter.

I have mixed feelings about this. At the end of the day, yes photographed images look ugly and don't belong in the database, but they do provide a correct and accurate idea of how the card looks, unlike mockups. So I think unless someone uploads a scanned image for a card, the photographed images can exist to provide a reference.
However, i strongly feel that if an image is tagged as 'needing replacement' shouldn't add to the completion percentage of the set. So if a set has images of all cards, but some images are photographed, then the set shouldn't be labelled as 100% completed, and it shouldn't be available as a completed gallery. The cards with incorrect images should be visible in the 'View of what's missing' in the Stats section of a set. This may make people aware that the set is incomplete, and infact requires some scanned images.

If we want to be the premier archival trading card database, then garbage images have no place here. What would you think of the Library of Congress or MoMA databases if they had garbage images?

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Questioning why these images were approved in the first place? When users are new to the site, they are able to submit "scanned" images to the site, but they are not able to approve the images...that has to be done by someone who has these permissions, and this serves as a check and balance/quality control. Unfortunately, some images are squeaking by and being approved, either by someone who overlooked it or by someone who has the permissions to approve their own images. As mentioned already, photos that do not meet the standards of this site should be flagged, and I agree, flagged images should not be counted towards the completed scanned image percentage. With that said, I do not know what it takes on the system side to make this adjustment so weather it can be done or not is not for me to say. Also, I do not know why the images are not removed if they don't meet the standards.

Unfortunately (in my opinion), the site's stance on these types of images changed.
In the beginning, when new users submitted something that wasn't darn near perfect, it was outright rejected.
Some time ago, the system was tweaked so that only images with watermarks, images that are mock-ups, or images that are the wrong card can be outright rejected. Marking "problem" and photograph, incomplete, or altered (written on), all accept the image and tag it for replacement right away. Nothing we as the general public can do on this as it's the site's policy.

which i feel has let to the increased number of "points farmers" , and in turn, makes more work for those who care about this site ... i wish things would go back to keeping all the trash out....not too difficult to scan a card correctly.

I've tried to be as accurate as I can with my scans and submissions, to the point of mania. I will say photographs of the color variations are 1000% more helpful than the chrome scans which come out a dusty gray.

Love three year old posts being bumped. Yes this battle was lost.
Maybe a feature can be added that a check box exists on the add image page that people can self select if it’s a photo, that way we don’t have to as often.

Touching on images squeaking by, either A) not allow the user who uploaded the image to reviewed their own image; and/or B) show who has reviewed the image when it is still in the queue
