Finally geting around to moving around a large collection I acquired a couple months ago (five large totes worth), I was wondering if anyone else had or is willing to share their stories of a injury or card loss of cards due to mishandling, misplacement, acts of God, theft, etc.
Acquiring a large collection back in Februaury 2020, I strained my shoulder for a few weeks after placing a large-3000 count style box in the backseat of my coupe with my arm in a really awkward position. Hurt like heck, but no doctor visit needed
As far as card loss goes, I had a few cards fall over, a few dinged corners here and there, nothing serious.

In the ongoing chore of organizing I found the 1998 Bowman - Minor League MVP's #MVP1 Jeff Bagwell halfway underneath a row of cards in a 3200-count box. Not a major hit financially, but it sure stings to see it with a significant crease knowing I'm to blame.

Had some 100/50 Card storage boxes on floor instead of table....
Line to waterheater cracked....
Loss of some excess cards and number of Tabletop games
in boxes on floor....
Boxes and containers of extra cards, not sealed covered, humidity and
dust make them untradable....

I had a major flood in 2015 where I lost a significant number of cards. I did several posts on Cardboard History when it happened, and showed pictures, but it's depressing and I don't want to look at it again so I'm not going to link it.
I've gotten several paper cuts on cards. Removing cards from toploaders tends to cut up my fingers as well...part of the reason I loathe them.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. in the process of one move, i had stored few boxes of cards in a tote within an outdoor shed (no other option) , well just so happens that a combination of mice and carptenter ants infritrated that tote and destroyed them. Fortunally, it was the early 90s , so not a financial loss, BUT did have an ex-girlfriend pawn off a few of my higher end cards ... no getting them back and no telling how much she got for them.

Bolo, similar situation for me. Had a bedroom downstairs in our house. Had all of my cards in the there and did not realize I had a pinhole leak in a water line inside the wall of that room until I walked in and water sloshed between my toes on the carpet. Lost about 30,000 cards which fortunately for me none that I needed for my sets. Still, I hated to throw them out.

I have lost a couple but what hurts the most is at the flea market and seeing cards just dumped into totes all damaged and not worth anything i have seen alot of bricks and a monster box that was mostly bricked

I had a water heater feed line break loose and spray all over , lost about 75k of cards... wasn't fun cleaning that up and seeing all those cards get trashed ☹️ Thankfully they weren't any of my more expensive ones

Received a broken heart when hundreds of thousands of semi-star, inserts and my personal collection of everything worth $1.00 a piece or less was stolen out of a storage locker while remodeling my mancave. 4 years later I'm still crushed and look at every card show, flea market or lcs in the Chicagoland area hoping I'll find them.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.
