2025 will be the final year that Topps will be able to print baseball cards, having lost the license to Fanatics. The end of a 70 year tradition... does anyone have any thoughts or feelings regarding this news? As collectors I would assume that some of you would have some sort of opinion.
Personally, I'm not at all happy with knowing Fanatics snagged another license that they can over-charge for. I specifically collect Topps, something about Topps brings be back to my childhood and I have nothing but fond memories. I have to say that I think come 2026, I'm not collecting baseball cards any longer... well, not current ones. I don't have it in me to support Fanatics.. I know many people are excited because they could bring new innovation to the hobby... but I can't really see any new leaps that can possibly be made.. unless they go pure digital, then you could do all sorts of thing I suppose. Either way I am bummed to see them go. Perhaps they can print college cards.. or print a full-on set of Pete Rose cards, to thumb their nose at the MLB. Good news for me at the very least, theres plenty of old Topps out there for me to collect, so that'll keep me busy.
Remember; Wherever you go, there you are.
