So this guy comes in the shop and starts looking around at our football cards. I have a couple Joe Burrow RCs for $10 each. First he asks me why I dont get them graded. I told him I have 2 reasons. No. 1 once a card is graded 99.9% of kids cant afford them. No. 2 I have never graded a card and never will I dont need a company to me how good a card looks. Then he asked if I would sell him both cards for $8 because he needs room to get them graded and resell them. I tried not to be rude but I explained to him that the room he needs to grade and resell means absolutely nothing to me. I know that seems harsh but that just seemed like a stupid offer. Rant over!
On a positive side we had a family come in and tell us that our shop in one of the welcoming shops that they are ever been in. The son found a justin fields card that he always wanted that other shops had graded and was way out of his budget. I had it priced at $20 but give it to him for $15.

Way to stick to your beliefs! You could have told the guy that yeah, you can sell him one for $8 to get graded but you'll have to bop a corner before you hand it over to him. Anytime someone else comes in like that, just remember that great family feedback.

Thank you sir! As someone who's son is a huge Bengals/Burrow fan I can't tell you how much I appreciate you thinking about the children. I am a vintage baseball card collector and I fully expect to pay higher prices for the items I'm looking for, but kids can't afford to keep up with a hobby that is pricing them out of the current players and teams they enjoy. Whenever we travel and can find a card shop/card show we always stop, but I truly appreciate and will always spend more money with those that find ways to keep the younger generation involved in the hobby.

I'm with you also, love it. There's a vintage dealer I work with at shows who does the same thing. Whenever someone is at his table talking grading that person pretty much lost any chance of a mark down. Meanwhile, he'll offer me a deep cut because he knows it'll go to a good home and never be in a plastic prison.
Grading has been a nuisance to this hobby, heck helped drive me out once before, but the insistence to grade a card fresh out of a pack drives me nuts. Ooh, ooh, I got a PSA 9 so I can ask for double now. Excuse me, how's yours any different from the other thousands that have been graded the same and no different than anything that was just opened?

I love it. Similar to others, I have zero interest in graded cards. Thank you for sticking to your values... someday I need to plan a road trip and stop by...

Wow the audacity for someone to ask you to lower your price so they can make more money reselling them.

Bravo. The graded card guy will have moved on to something else in 5 years, but the kid may end up becoming a collector for life.
