I noticed the Angels cards do not have the city on the card, only the nickname. Any idea why? Does not seem like it's an error - they all seem to be like this.

This has been the case with all Topps brands for the last several years.

I wonder if it has anything to do with their lease with the City of Anaheim. I know at one point the city forced them to add "Anaheim" to their team name. Seems like the city and the team have been at odds for many years. Maybe Topps decided to just avoid any mention of a city.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

It started in 2006 after the team switched from "Anaheim" to "Los Angeles ... of Anaheim" the year before. Upper Deck switched too, and even when "of Anaheim" was dropped, it's still been just "Angels" ever since.

Does anyone remember when the team was called the CALIFORNIA Angels? Nolan Ryan, Mickey Rivers, Frank Tanana.

This was the explanation that was given to me..."It's a contractual thing the owner of the Angels insists on, that it can't just be 'the los angeles angels' or 'the anaheim angels', it has to be the full thing, and can only be truncated as 'Angels', and Topps has abided by this for years. It just makes for inconvenient design sometimes."

They were originally known as the Los Angeles Angels from their inception in 1961 through 1965, and played four season in Dodger Stadium.

Thanks all. Now the question is how the heck didn't I notice this for a decade? Guess that's all on me.

They were the:
Los Angeles Angels (1961-64), California Angels (65-96), Anaheim Angels (1997-2004), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2005-15), Los Angeles Angels (2016-present)
They played their first season in Wrigley Field (LA), then four at Dodger Stadium, and the rest at the various incarnations of Anaheim Stadium.
Fun fact - they have never gone to the playoffs as the Los Angeles Angels
