Admin has created a new "International" category for hockey sets. This category is intended for sets that feature national teams and/or players participating in international events including World Championships, World Junior Championships, Olympics, World Cup, etc. These sets have previously been listed under several different categories including European Leagues, Oddball, Postcards or Team sets. I imagine that other sports would also likely have card sets that would fit into this category but I do not if the International category was implemented outside of hockey.

Expect the same in return. 1989 and older are assigned a grade. Everything on my trade list is available for sale. Reasonable prices based on condition. If it's not on my tradelist, it's not available.

So are other categories being eliminated? I still see European Leagues as a category. Also, I'm assuming OPC will remain as is and international will simply refer to other continents, right?

Using soccer as an example, they have several categories that can explain this. International is used f0r what is described by reakins. Those events are international events where countries are gathered under one event banner. There are also categories for each national league (Prem, La Liga, etc.). So for hockey, I can see European staying to honor those leagues there.

Here is a perfect example of International Hockey 1979 Panini Hockey Stickers Hockey - Trading Card Database (tcdb.com)
Every year there is a World Championship for ice hockey, usually starts mid-April and runs to early May. This late start allows players from NHL clubs that did not make the playoffs to represent their respective countries. Not a best on best tournament like the NHLPA World Cup of Hockey, but it's big in Europe. A few companies produce sets or albums (again mostly European) for these events that eventually make their way over to hockey crazed Canadian collectors as well. I would compare it to the Soccer World Cup stickers & cards, but you don't have to wait 4 years to collect the next set.

No categories will be eliminated. All I was referring to is sets that would now be classified as international have previously been placed in other categories. Most sets in these other categories would remain and not be moved. If you see sets that need to be moved to the new category, please submit an IR.

In the Category Hierarchy does International fall in #1?
For sets that meet the criteria for multiple categories, the following hierarchy should be used:
-
- Leagues (Japanese, CFL, European, WNBA, etc.)
- College
- Minor League
- Food Issue
- Postcard
- Team Photo
- Team Issue
- Promo
- Reprint
- Oddball
- On-Demand
- Box Set
- Team Set
- Major Release
-------------------------------
Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Not sure, since the category hasn't been incorporated into the FAQ yet, but European League sets are not "International" by default. Only sets primarily featuring national teams representing countries are "International" For example some of the Swedish Williams hockey sets feature Swedish league teams (and players) as well as some national teams (and players). These would remain as European League. Some Semic sets featuring primarily national teams (and players) would fall under the new International category. I've assumed that International category would be above Team Set and Postcard and therefore team sets or postcards featuring national teams (and players) should be classed as international. This is a work in progress so all sets have not yet been reassigned.
