After searching for some other team photos I expected to have positive identifications listed, I'm beginning to realize that there may not be as many of those as I had assumed for all sports teams. Maybe my expectations were skewed by growing up in Boston and seeing top-quality paraphernalia like detailed team photos all the time. My apologies for assuming such information was widely available for most team cards in all sports. I still think team cards should be linked in individual databases when possible, so as a Bostonian, I'll continue providing the necessary evidence for certain team cards as it occurs to me to research them.
One of the most significant team cards in history is the 1970 O-Pee-Chee Stanley Cup team card for the Bruins. That team was so wildly popular that it prompted OPC to include that team card, which was apparently not being done at the time, correct me if I'm wrong. I found a team poster with row-by-row left-to-right positive identification for everyone pictured, it looks official, but I'm not sure. Here is the card, the poster, a sharper version of the team photo, and the text exactly as it appears on the poster. As a noob here, I will not be updating links and databases. I will wait for a TCDB veteran to make that choice.
Front Row: L-R: Gerry Cheevers, Milt Schmidt, Harry Sinden (Coach), Eddie Johnston, Weston Adams Jr., Tom Johnson, John Adams (Spare Goaler).
2nd Row: Dan Canney, Bill Lesuk, Bobby Orr, Wayne Cashman, Ed Westfall, Phil Esposito, Don Awrey, Don Marcotte, John Bucyk, Fred Stanfield, John Forristall.
3rd Row: John McKenzie, Ron Murphy, Dallas Smith, Derek Anderson, Wayne Carleton, Ken Hodge, Bill Speer, Ace Bailey, Gary Doak, Jim Lorenz, Rick Smith.
If matching faces to names with secondary photographic evidence is required, let me know, and I will do that. However, I did examine every person here one by one and I double-checked their faces and the listings on the poster are accurate. With one exception: Weston Adams SENIOR is pictured in between Eddie Johnston and Weston Adams JUNIOR, but not named in the list. Senior was the Chairman of the Board. Not sure why the poster omits his name. If need be, I can retrieve evidence to prove that it's him.
More information that may or may not be useful for future database-linking:
"Lorenz" is misspelled, it's actually Lorentz.
John Forristall was Assistant Trainer.
Dan Canney was the Head Trainer.
Tom Johnson was Assistant GM.
Weston Adams Jr. was President.
EDIT: Not missing from the database anymore, I added the name links. I updated the 1972 Topps & OPC Stanley Cup Bruins cards, too. Here's the show-my-work evidence for those:
In those cards' comments sections, I posted a positive ID list, and every team card I update with name links will have such a list...
