Hello everyone,
I recently acquired a phew cards from this set and am having trouble wrapping my head around the differences between the SP variants and the non-SP cards. Besides the image, nothing seems to be different. So, how do I tell which image is the SP? Take for example card #1, Rick Grimes. The first set of images is the front and back of the card, the second set is for the SP variation. If no one had put pictures in for it, how would I tell?

I don't know, but the numbering and set-up of this set is also screwed up. I'm going to update the card numbers and ad VAR annotation as necessary. The VARs that are showing look to be simple image variations with no verbiage on the back. There may/should be a CMP variance though to help identify.

Okay, sounds good. Forgive my ignorance, but what's a CMP variance?

No need to ask for forgiveness, that is what the forums are for. CMP stands for something, but it's the production code usually found on the back of the card, for Topps that is. Normally it's lead by the CMP acronym. I can't tell from the scans posted, but I don't think that this set has them. With that said, normally the description of the VAR is loaded int the DB by members. If unknown it is left blank until someone researches it and adds it. If you look at the set now you'll see a little of what it should look like.
Edit: Should also add, scans are added to the site as people have them and are able to upload so there's always going to be some gaps.

Now there's research needed as some of the scans may be in the wrong place. Knowing the uploader the scan looked right, but there is a disconnect. Someone who is much more familiar with this set needs to take over.

This would confirm my initial suspicions and why I asked the question. I have the version of card #6 Maggie Greene with her "screaming" like the checklist suggests, but the photo for it is currently under the SP. When I looked it up on Ebay to try to find the difference, the only one available for sale right now is this image and its not marked SP on the listings, so I figured it might be incorrect. I've never visited this resource before, is it a pretty credible source?

Pretty credible, yes. But like any other crowd sourced site there are errors that occur. When someone points a potential issue out members work diligently to correct it. Members take pride on ensuring the data here is the most accurate possible. By pointing this out we can make the fixes.

I meant to quote the link that the other member sent. I've never been to that website before. TCDB has been an invaluable help for as long as I've been on it.

That's why research is needed. Usually that site is reliable also, but they too can make mistakes. Because there is a disconnect it needs to be looks into. If you look at who uploaded the images you can message him and start helping try to sort it out.
