Before submitting an IR I wanted to get some open minded thoughts on this card. The bottom loop of the "L" in Lance is incomplete on some cards. These exist in both variations on the INC and INC.(w/dot). It does not appear to be an inking flaw(consistent sharp line on all observed examples) but rather a plate that was poorly made from the start and later corrected or a plate that got damaged. I do not know if either scenario could be determined for sure.
The Factory set has the complete loop in the "L" and probably only exists as such.
I think this is along the lines of the variations with the black lines that run through the lettering on some cards which are in the database currently.
The splatter pattern is the same on both cards too.

I never noticed that with the naked eye, It is more evident in the scanned closeup than with a loupe. What does that mean? Was there a problem with the magenta plate?

Magenta plate could have picked up some debris or something else could have been interfering with it. My take on this one is printing flaw. Unless someone out there has a better explanation.

Agree, printing glitch. Usually it's caused by debris on the plate or platen. Remember, there is no such thing as white ink; white is the absence of ink.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

A man has to have goals — for a day, for a lifetime — and that was mine, to have people say, "There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived."

I'd call this a printing flaw too, but one that was repeated a lot during the printing process. I track this as a variation, but I can see why many wouldn't. I only have the clipped L variation, and the subsequent correction, on the "Inc" back. I have not seen the clipped L variation with the "Inc." back.

Both shown are the INC. (w/period) so it is one for you to look for.

Moving this to the 1990 Donruss forum, so that people know that this exists (and could in quantity), however, due to the nature of it, we do not plan to list it on TCDB. Thanks.
