I have Star Platinum Roger Clemens cards 21-30. Why are they listed in the Platinum Glossy checklist but not the regular Platinum checklist? Were they not issued in the regular set? If they were issued in both, how can I tell which I have? They seem to have slightly more gloss than other Star cards I have, but it's a minor difference at best.

Those sets were kind of a mish-mosh. As you can see, the difference was the coloration used. One of the series was done with the same tone top/bottom with the gradient through the middle while the other set has the gradient run from top to bottom (where the top color shade differs greatly from the bottom shade). Clemens 21-30 was issued in the top/bottom full gradient while Clemens 111-120 was in the middle gradient series.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact timing of these sets being released. I'll see if I have any insight as to the actual releases of these.

Just so you, BDillman, Dan used to work for Star, thus his expertise on the company's product is above anyone else that I know at TCDB.

Consulted my notes.
Technically, the series that has Andre Dawson in it is the 1988 set and the series that has Will Calrk is the 1989 set.
This is truly 1988: https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/195476/1988-Star-Platinum/Glossy
This should be 1989, but those darn copyrights mess with people's heads: https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/108188/1988-Star-Platinum
Edit to add: Yes, Joshua is correct, I worked for Star from 1986 to 1993. There were some things that were produced during that time that wasn't in my oversight.

I've put in IRs to get the ine moved to 1989, and then change the name of the other one (but I'll wait until the one is moved so we don't have 2 sets with the same name).

Thanks guys. Sorry if I'm missing the answer in your responses, but I'm still unclear on why the 1988 Star Platinum checklist is missing the 21-30 Clemens cards. Dan, what do you know about that? Some sort of oversight or were the Clemens cards only issued in the glossy set (seems unlikely)?
I only have the Clemens cards from the set. At the time, I collected almost only Clemens cards. The Clemens cards I have, have a yellowish tint on the back. Is that an indicator of Platinum versus Platinum Glossy? Just trying to accurately put these cards on my collection list and may not be able to if they're standard issue cards with those cards not in the standard issue checklist for whatever reason.
Thanks again for the assistance.

Yeah, you missed the point that there is no "Platinum/Glossy" set - there are 2 distinct Platinum sets that were not listed correctly here.
One set (currently listed as 1988 Platinum) should be moved to become 1989 Platinum. Not sure who is 21-30 in that set, and with the way we did things back then, might not exist. Clemens does exist in this set, on cards 111-120, not 21-30.
The other set (currently listed as 1988 Platinum/Glossy) will be renamed to simply be 1988 Platinum. Yes, some of the sets did not say Platinum, mainly because it was a new concept we were trying and then the name stuck, and subsequent setups included "Platinum" on the cards. Clemens is 21-30 in this set.
All cards from both sets have a yellow back.

Thanks Dan. I'll wait for the correction before checking mine off. Strange that the 88 / should be 89 set is missing the 21-30 cards in the checklist to confuse the matter. Mine definitely match the look of the set currently labeled 1988 Platinum / Glossy.

And that is the set you should be marking as in your collection. The only thing that will change about that set is the name - I'll be taking "/Glossy" out of it.
