I just realized there are 900 cards in the base set (Series 1, 2, and 3). Anyone know if this is one of the biggest base sets ever made? I can' t think of any bigger right now.

Upper Deck had some go over 1000. Fortyman is one of the ones I can remember.
Conlon Collection had there numbers go up to 1650, but there was only 330 released each year they just continued the numbering.

WAY off guys! 2008 Upper Deck Documentary and 2008 Topps Moments and Milestones are MASSIVE. That's not counting Topps Tek sets of the late-90's, and of course the Yankee Stadium Legacy insert set. There are some truly monstrous sets out there. 1992 SC was the largest single-year release at the time it came out though.

That was an Insert set though! It was spread through several releases and a couple of years.
I think he was asking about actual base sets. That's why I mentioned UD Doc, Topps M&M and Topps Tek first.

In terms of non-specialty sets like the Yankee Stadium set, et al. it's definitely one of the bigger sets. Off the top of my head I know 2009 Upper Deck cleared 1,000. 1991 and 1992 Score each had 893.

I'd say only single-year releases should qualify, so the Topps Living Set is out.
Surely I'm not the only member who immediately associates the numbers 660 and 792 with baseball cards

YES!

Peace and cards, David Building up baseball sets slowly but, well, slowly. Residence in New England has no bearing on my favorite teams, players, or how I pronounce "card." Forgave my dad for putting his '52 Mantle in his bike spokes, but not my brother for plastering his room with my Star Wars stickers.
