I'm questioning the year 2005 used for this deck of cards. Jack Flaherty is in this deck. He was 10 years old in 2005. At least two other players would have been children at the time. Any better guesses?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I would have to agree, Paul DeJong would have been about 12 years old. The year must be incorrect.

I think the year is right but the checklist is wrong. There is a modern deck available on the Hero Deck website, but examples of the 2005 set on COMC have different cards than in the set listed here.

Ok, the suits are done by era. Spades are the modern era. The checklist we have is the deck for sale on the website now, which would have been issued between 2019 and 2020 seasons, based on the inclusion of Flaherty. The 2005 may have had identical fronts for the ♡◇♧ cards as the 2020 deck (Schoendienst on the 2 websites look identical). The spades would be mostly, if not entirely, different cards for 2005 and 2020. Waino, Freese, Wong, Holliday, DeJong, Flaherty could not have been in a 2005 deck. Yadi would be unlikely. Pujols Edmonds and Carpenter would need new write-ups in 2020. Other ♤ might be unchanged.
My LCS sells these decks. I'll have to buy one next time I go. If he has both, I'll buy both.

Also, I forgot to say, thanks Cynical for the links. That's how I came to my conclusions.

OK, fast-forward six days. I now have the 2020 deck in my possession. I also see now, and didn't see when I started this topic, that the 2020 deck is already in the database. It is accurate; I assume that davidhandberry owned it when he added the checklist. This 2006 deck is wrong in the spades suit only. What do I do to fix it? Some of the names couldn't have been in the 2006 deck, due to players not being Cardinals yet in 2006, including some who were still children in 2006. Some were, but are now a different card (Carpenter was Ace in 2006, Waino is Ace in 2020 and Carpenter moved to Jack). I can see SOME of the corrections needed in the COMC link cynicalbuddha provided. Others, I have no idea. Do I leave a bad checklist just because I can't prove all 52 cards? Or do I fix what I can and put TBD or TBA for the others? Do I play solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51? Can somebody who knows more than me about fixing bad checklists tell me what to do?

Whoaaaa...back up here. My spades don't match the 2006 or the 2020. My deck is somewhere in between. I was focused on the Hearts Clubs Diamonds, and didn't catch that the spades are still off. I have about three spades that would have been a time period between the two existing decks in the database. I'm sure I could narrow it down based on player movement, but I just caught it. This is getting crazy. I can only assume the same has happened with all the other teams with Hero Decks in the database. Wow.

I remember some discussion about the Red Sox sets too. Seems like there was a newish wave around 2007 (maybe that's your in between year?) but I'm not sure that's a fast and true rule. The Brewers have only had one deck produced (though I haven't looked recently) while other teams at least three. Would be nice if there was a year listed on the boxes for sure.

So we don't lose this forum thread that started on the 2005 Hero Decks set, I have moved it to the 2006 set. However, what happened betewwn the last post and today was the following:
An IR came in to update the checklist of the 2005 set to remove to "new" players (the ones that hadn't been on the team yet) and substitute in the "correct" players. Those changes were made.
Shortly thereafter, another IR came in informing us that the 2005 set and 2006 sets were identical, are duplicates, and the 2005 set should be removed as the set was a 2006 set. Not knowing how to tell, I was directed to the packaging image, which I have cut and rotated to make it easier to see:
Therefore, the 2005 set appears to not exist. And this is how this got to here. The original checklist (which was the reason for the thread in the first place) questioned the inclusion of players such as Kolten Wong. The OP had a valid point. Turned out, the 2005 set listing here never should have existed in the first place.
