I bought the #162 Mark McGwire from the LCS today and the card came with the protective film on it. How does the film affect the price? Is it even possible to remove the film any more?

Cards with the film would generally be worth more than ones w/o

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

The film shouldn't effect the price. (Edit OK yeah keeping the film on might increase the value a tiny bit) It still should be possible to remove the film.
The only factor I can think of that might effect that posibliity of removal of the film would be extreme temprature changes.

The owner of a card shop I frequented in NJ told me that keeping the film improved chances of a higher grading (if that matters to you).
I peel all that I come across in my collection.

You'll have to remove the film to get it graded. The grading companies will not grade the card surface if the film is on it. They will grade the surface of the film.

I wondered how the film would be handled by the graders. I would be afraid of paper loss on the older cards.

PSA will grade if the film is on or not. If you search ebay there are plenty of PSA10 Finest cards with the film intact. As long as the film is in perfect condition it would grade fine. The problem is , if the film is damaged in any way , it will effect the grade.

I elected to pee it since McGwire is my main collection. I want to appreciate his cards in all their glory

I don't think I'd appreciate it that much..... oh I think you meant PEEL, that makes much more sense.
I usually don't peel, but if its in my collection then I don't care too much if its peeled or not.
