The First box set!!

Released in 1982 the 1980's vintage modern area with many all the big names of the past.

Most these cards was the 6 to 12 year old's First Mantle, First Aaron and 1st other cards. 

This spanned and started the decade long box set craze by the card manufacturers.  This historic set gave way starting in 1985 for releases by other card companies to have the idea 💡 to come up with other box sets.

Topps was the 🥇 First. Topps usually was the First.

On a Historical level Kmart did a lot of Firsts.

At card shows some youth look for this 1st set that started it all.

Yep, so true. And I have several of these (and they are available if anyone wants one - minus the gum, I took that out back in 1982).

I liked this set for the fact that it showed the older cards, some of which I didn't have any of yet. Fleer didn't have to go so crazy with the box sets later in the decade, however. :)

Agree with Dan, I liked this set alot as a kid and steered me toward vintage players.

A friend of mine loves this one so much he has built 15 sets card by card

I got this set when it first came out then 5 years later got the 25th Anniversary set. These commemorative sets are a great way to get the older more vintage players at an affordable price. Sure they don't necessarily bring in the mega bucks for resale but they are more fun than the Retro sets and modern reprints.

Being a player collector was so much fun in the 80s and early 90s, with all these small boxed sets and various food issues.  I remember buying the 1987 set, and then reading about the 1982 set in Beckett, and how it was initially very popular, but was quickly found to have been massively overproduced.

This box set from 1950 might be the first.

Perhaps??  but 1982 is the first in the vintage modern era. 

there is no box sets previously for many many years previous of this historical classic the 1982 Kmart set. 

We can also see collectors grading this set. Also we can see collectors buying this set in various grades.
