Today’s card of the day is a 1953 University of Oregon card of Dick James. It is one of twenty cards in the set, and the cards are challenging to find. Four of the twenty players went on to play in the NFL or CFL.
James played halfback and defensive back for ten seasons in the NFL: 1956 to 1963 with the Washington Redskins, 1964 with the New York Giants, and 1965 with the Minnesota Vikings. He made the Pro Bowl in 1961, and he is a member of the Washington Commanders Ring of Fame. In addition to his University of Oregon card, James appeared on numerous NFL cards, which you can see in the Gallery. He even made an appearance well after retiring, on the cover of the Washington Redskins 1969 Topps Mini-Card Album.
