In the parallel set the maple leaf on the top front of the player cards is foil embossed. Special cards (e.g helmet cards) from the base set did not have a maple leaf on the front but a foil embossed maple leaf was added on the front of the parallel set. I remember opening packs and it was easy to miss the foil on the player cards.
