Trivia |
- First time in Fleer's "Team Action" run (1976-1988) the team schedules appear in the base set.
- This is the first year since inception (1976) that Fleer issued three cards for every team instead of two. The three cards for each team are "On Offense"; "On Defense" & "In Action".
This is also the first time in the "Team Action" series that Fleer did not feature the cards of every previous Super Bowl within the set. Because the set is only 88 cards, 3 cards for evey team totaled 84 cards. For the remaining 4 cards, Fleer featured 3 Super Bowl Cards (of the most recent Super Bowl) and 1 Pro Bowl card. The 1986 Set would also feature this same format, before returning to the previous format with two cards per team and having all the previous Super Bowls present (along with the 1986 Playoff game results) in the 1987 set. The 1988 set also feature two cards per team, but only featured the "Super Bowls Of The Decade" and had the 1987 playoff results and 1987 team category leader cards. - This is the first year since 1980 that the Team Schedules do not appear on the backs of the stickers. A "Cheer Contest" appears instead.
- This would be the final year that Fleer used the "classic style" two bar face mask on the helmet stickers. Starting in 1986, Fleer would use a modern style face mask.
- This would be the final year of the four year format (1982-1985) of team helmet variation stickers. There were five variations, all from teams that only had a single helmet sticker in the set (and not an additional team logo sticker). The five helmet variations are:
Cincinnati Line/No Line through facemask screw
Baltimore/Indianapolis Large Font/Small Font (This variation continues through 1988, the end of the run)
Green Bay Outline/No Outline around ear hole
NY Giants "TM" present/not present
Seattle Light Gray/Dark Gray Helmet.
