Are photos not acceptable for encased cards? I thought that new cards that come from mfgr encased are allowed to photod, but see those images as marked to be replaced (not just mine)
edit: didnt mean photo but instead a scan of card inside toploader from mfgr

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Scans (like Chuck said, no photos) of encased cards are allowed but should still be cropped (though the slab can be included). However, they may still get tagged for eventual replacement unless you have a good enough quality scanner that the images don't come out super blurry.
Otherwise, cards should NOT be scanned inside penny sleeves and toploaders. That includes redemptions like the ones you get from Topps that come "sealed" with a sticker.

Bringing this back to the top for a similar question. I know there are 2 different schools of thought on scanning manufacturer "encased" cards. I have a Pristine pink refractor I just got that is still sealed with that pristine sticker. I don't want to remove it and it does cover a bit of the card when scanned so I can't crop it out. My issue is the one-touch is a bit scratched (the seller just threw it in a bubble mailer with no other protection but that's a whole other rant). I do have a scanner with depth, but should I just hold off uploading the image anyways due to the scratches? The scan is attached.

it was my understanding that if its encased from mfgr, you scan it as best you can. I did scan "encased" cards but they were immediately flagged for replacement. It hasnt been made clear what is acceptable as encased (sealed form mfgr)

That's not encased and that's not an authenticity sticker. It's just a sticker to keep the one-touch from opening in transit. If you scan as is it will get tagged as incomplete because the sticker is covering part of the card.

Gotcha! I'll just keep it in my PC photo album then. Thanks for clarifying!

What constitute an encased card? There is an increasing # of sets that are "encased" and sealed with mfgr sticker, I had some that were simply inside a plastic case (i removed and scanned) but what about complete sets that are encased (and sealed by mfgr) My understanding is that if it came that way, thats how it should be scanned??? (not "encased" redemptions though)

Permanently sealed and tamper proof; graded slabs.
