I have a few I tackle as Frankensets where I go for the most rare I can acquire of each parallel, I wish there was a way to more easily track here.

By the way, building a "set" with different actual sets is called a Frankenset by the card blogosphere. There's as many different takes on it as there are collectors, one of the most prominent is Shoebox Legends building a set of 792 baseball cards using only buybacks, another is Baseball Card Breakdown building a 2011 (or 12, I forget) Topps set using only parallels. I believe he is using the Topps Chrome colored refractors as well. I've picked out a few to send to each of them when I come across them. Both of them are Database members as well, so if you have spares from those sets/concepts, hit them up. I even linked their profiles to make it easy to find them. Neither are very active on here but both are great people. 

Mixing Topps and O-Pee-Chee sets in any sport is blasphemy !     

I've considered possibly doing it over the "same" set,  e.g. 1991-1992 UD Basketball (combining different holograms) but would probably would not consider it over more than one set/brand.

UD holograms are a who cares to me. So yes the eary 90s UD I have them mixed like this. Now other ones it drives me up the wall. I bought a set of Shark Attack Nascar cards in one of the cards that was sent to me was a parallel. 

I didn't even know there were multiple UD hologram sets until I saw them get discussed on here. My sets are a mix of them as well, because I didn't even know it was something I should be looking for. 

I know for sure I have both versions of at least one of the cards, because I happened to have one out for scanning, the one I've had for years, and pulled another out of a repack when it was literally the top card on the stack for the next day. Sure enough, it had a different hologram. 

While I don't really care about them that much and am not likely to ever search out the different versions, if I get both naturally I will consider them separate cards. 

And this is coming from a Parallel fanatic! I did, however, pull all cards from those sets from my duplicates/trade stash, (I think), until I can find out and be sure...which will require me to finish scanning everything, which may not happen in the 2020s. I better get back to work scanning rather than checking here, the AACA forum, Facebook, Twitter, and the NBA and NHL apps...

My OCD wouldn't let me.  When I started my Topps Saints collection, it was to have one of every card issued.  Base Topps, not Chrome, Finest, or any of the others.

Not saying it's wrong, but the thought makes me kinda itch...

Itching a bit myself. I couldn't do it. The closest I've come is a set that had gold parallels in the 90s -- I don't even remember which now. I didn't know the difference and generally kept the gold ones because....they seemed specialer? About three years ago, probably through this site, I learned the error of my ways, and I think the first trade I ever did here was to exchange my gold ones for regular ones to avoid the Frankenset. I think I still have three gold in the set, though. It bugs me. But not enough to do anything about.

I'll just put this out there.

If one has a card (or multiple cards) from another set (or multiple sets) in with a bunch of cards from a single set (but is missing the corresponding cards), one does not have a complete set of anything.
