I recently started collecting wardrobe/relic cards and have noticed a lot of eBay sellers are listing "variants" based on the piece of clothing being a different color/pattern than what they conscider the "normal" color for that card.
Does this really constitute a variant? I will admit I have bought 2 of the same card because they had differnet color pieces of clothing, but thought that was just my preferance and didn't conscider them variants. I alwasy thought if the printing on the card was exactly the same, then it was the "same card".
What is everyones opinion on this? Is there a set definition/industry standard for wardrobe variants? Is this just oportunistic eBay sellers trying to sell 2 of the same card to one buyer?

I do not consider them variants. I have a bunch of jersey cards that have a white jersey piece on one and a a black jersey piece on another. Like you said though, the printing on the card is the same so I figure I have a duplicate not a variant.

Unless there is a difference in the card portion of a relic card, it is not consdiered a variant here.
That doesn't mean, as a collector, you can't consider them as parts of your collection. (I have posted in the past with a card we have 3 of - one red swatch, one white swatch, one red and white swatch.) Personal preference there. But not recognized as such here.

I have done the same as others and collected different color swatches on the same card, but am reconsidering after seeing this thread: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1287505
If there's a significant premium associated with one, be very careful.

That thread makes me very happy that I do not buy high end stuff like that at any card shows or on-line like ebay. If I buy high end stuff it is always in the original packaging at the LCS or through Upper Deck e-pack.

Only been collecting trading cards for about a month, The single most expensive card I have bought so far was $25, so don't think I'm in the price range to worry about those premiums, but how did they get a grade of 9.5 with the damage to the surface of that card?? WOW... just WOW....

Different colors on the jersey doesn't bother me. But I pulled one lasr year with a piece of wood, so I am figuring bat. I come on here and the card is already pictured with a Jersey in it. Both cards are the same except the relic.
