Excellent points V3! I also sneeze or cough into my elbow and have been doing that for 20 years now. The "cover your face" commercials back then made no sense to me to cough into my hands. You will just spread your germs to the next several things you touch. Even if they aren't viral germs/bacteria, you are still spreading something that not everyone's body can handle. I don't get the flu shot, but that's b/c I know my body will tell me if I have it and I'll know to stay away from people. I've had the flu twice in my nearly 42 years and the last time was in 2008. The first time was 1989 or 1990. That's an especially good record since I've worked in a medical facility since 2006!
I am a very defensive driver. I watch what other vehicles are doing even more than I watch what I am doing. I also am constantly looking to the sides of the road for animals. You learn to do that when you have mostly lived out in rural areas. I have run over a few small animals while driving, but there was absolutely nothing else I could do to avoid them in all of those cases. I have had a few close calls with deer but never actually hit one. I've only had 2 wrecks and the 1st was b/c I was young (16) and ignorant. The second one (at 18) was b/c someone was going 20mph over the speed limit and I didn't realize it until I had already committed to turning onto that road. No one was hurt in that wreck. I broke my ankle in the first wreck when I was T-boned by a tree after losing control of my car. Luckily, I hit the tree on the passenger side and no one else was with me. If anyone else had been in the car, they would've been killed. If I had hit the tree at any other angle, I'd have been killed. I have pictures of the car that prove that fact. That wreck gave me a whole new respect for driving and made me a much better driver. Both of my siblings have each had more car wrecks than I have and I'm the oldest. My mother has too, but she's a mail carrier and she also delivered newspapers when I was little.
NOT TO V3, BUT TO THE THREAD ITSELF:
The main thing I take issue with about trying to compare vehicle-related deaths to deaths from a virus outbreak is that nearly EVERYONE on the planet is going to be in a vehicle at some point every day or at least once a week. Over 6 billion people are in cars, trucks, buses, vans, trains, etc. on a daily basis. Any wrecks can take a life or several of them at any time. Even precaution or defensive strategy can't keep that from happening. But people CAN protect themselves from viruses when they know something exists and is spreading fast!
