Been thinking on this a little bit since the list came out. the Baines head-scratcher from last year was not good for the hall. seems we're looking at the hall of very good from this point forward. It should be exclusive and not just putting guys in for the sake of it. I kind of look at it like was there a prolonged point in a guys career where the majority would assume that hed be in the hall of fame? guys who were truly "Stars" this is the hall of FAME right?
Donnie Baseball was a star but it didnt stay bright enough for long enough
Munson was a star and his premature death brought him more fame, had he been around longer then there'd be a good chance
Evans was popular but mostly in the Boston area
Whitaker gets a lot of recognition from the DP combo with Trammell, but had a long productive career
Garvey was definately a star and generally thought of a future Hall of Famer in his Day
Parker had star power and was one the most feared hitter in the league for the first 5 years of his career, then spent the next 10+ years as basically a 1.0 WAR player
Simmons didnt maintain star power outside of St Louis really, wasn't really ever the best catcher in his league due to Carter and Bench and then in the AL Fisk, not his fault but long career does not mean HOF
Tommy John - long career, almost 300 hundred wins, he gets in based on the name... everyone in baseball knows the name Tommy John!!!
Dale Murphy - just let the guy in already, he hung around the game a little longer than he needed to to but that stretch of dominance from 80-87 was unreal. dont think anyone around the game would have guessed that he'd still be waiting for the call.
Marvin Miller - I get that did have an impact on the game, but um NO. Steinbrenner did as well and he's been held out. Miller's inclusion would be a joke.
