The Mt. Rushmore thread got me thinking about this one. Name one guy from your team or city that was earmarked for stardum but just didn't live up to the hype or talent everyone thought he had. Not necessarily a bust but that guy that you always wanted or expected more from.
Bulls Derrick Rose. He could have owned this city after MJ but injuries, stupidity and bad advice doomed him.
Blackhawks: I'll always remember this guy Everett Sanipass. If I remember correctly he took the league by storm in the playoffs for the Hawks. Edmonton offered us a boatload of players including Glen Anderson for him and the Hawks refused. Never came close to the hype and was off to quebec by the end of the 80's.
Bears: Cade McNown or Rasaan Salaam. It's a long list folks.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

Two words..... Len Bias.
A damn shame for Celtic fans. He could have played with Bird, McHale, and Parrish. What could have been...

Tony Mandarich!!! Second pick in the 1989 NFL Draft. Of the first 5 picks, 4 are in the Football Hall of Fame.

Yasmany Tomas for the Diamondbacks. Major signing out of Cuba and given a very large contract. He has mostly been sitting in AAA since 2017 waiting for his conract to expire. (Which is after this season). He had one good season with Arizona but proved that his glove was unplayable at the MLB level. He was removed from the 40 man roster on 2 occasions and no one claimed him. Might be a decent DH option for the AL once his massive contract is done.

Easy Brian Bosworth...Seattle wasted a supplimental pick on him paid him obscene money and he never lived up to the hype...turns out he was a better actor then football player (and that is not saying much).

Other than 4th and 26 Freddie Mitchell. The EAGLES select:
Jay Berwanger
There are no NFL stats to Jay Berwanger’s name, which is an absolute shame. The Philadelphia Eagles selected him first overall in the first-ever draft, but Berwanger never played a game.
In fact, he never tried to play a game. Berwanger and the Eagles couldn’t agree upon a salary, and Berwanger chose to participate in the Olympics instead. He later worked briefly as a sportswriter and then as a manufacturer of plastic car parts.

I haven't done a Mt. Rushmore since I have way too many fave PC guys from my Homie and fave teams. However some standouts in this category:
Nationals: Mr. $330 Million "Royce" Harper
Redskins: Almost anyone who was QB in the last 20 or so years. Head of the Class RG3. There is also past his prime Adrian Peterson.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

St. Louis Cardinals - Mark Mulder - He was good his first year there, but his second year he went 6-7 and threw an ERA of 7.14. THEN the Cardinals re-signed him in 2007, a 2 year contract worth $11.5 Million. In 2007, he only played 3 games, lost all of them and had an ERA of 12.27. He only played 3 games in 2008, and then retired.
Kansas City Royals - Luke Hochevar - It's not that he was bad, it's that both Clayton Kershaw & Max Scherzer were taken later.
Kansas City Chiefs - Todd Blackledge - All I really need to say is that both Jim Kelly & Dan Marino were taken later.
Detroit Pistons - Darko Milicic - Oh boy what a bust. After winning 50 games in 2003, and owning the Grizzlies draft pick, they selected Milicic. Although they could have selected either Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, or Chris Bosh. Yeah they won the title in 2003-04, but I feel like they could have won at least one more if they didn't take Darko.
