On the team name for Red Sox and White Sox (as the only teams with a capital S in team nickname), the letter that is present on the card fronts is certainly not an S. It is not a Y as it does not match the Y on the Yankees cards. It is not a P as it does not match the P on the Phillies cards. It could be an L as there are no teams with L in the nickname.

Put this into discussion rather than IR since it is really just a complaint about the design of the card. Not really being serious about it being a EUR. :)

It's a highly stylized S.

Thought I have to say, that is a REALLY stylized "S".  I haven't seen one of these cards in a while, but not sure how I never noticed it before.

Also a bit curious how many people my age and younger even know who Redd Foxx is, whose real name was actually Sanford and would have celebrated his 98th birthday yesterday.  Sad how he passed away.

I have a couple of his comedy albums. He was a real foul-mouthed comedian.
