MLB warm-up jackets from the 60s thru the 80sby theFalcon - 101 cards (Last updated on Nov 19, 2020) |
Speaking of outerwear, check out the video below for Opening Day at Yankee Stadium in 1970. The NY bullpen pitchers are wearing knee-length hooded parkas (1:43 thru 1:53). Can't recall ever seeing that before in baseball.

81. 1972 Topps #729 Bob Veale
Taken during spring training in 1971 or 1972 ... sleeves changed to white compared to Jim Bunning card. |
82. 1972 Topps #179 Dock Ellis
Back in the '80s, I met a guy who was from the Pittsburgh area. He said Ellis was sitting on the bench or in the bullpen wearing a warm-up jacket. When he was told to start warming up, he took the jacket off and he wasn't wearing anything underneath. I don't know if this was true, but I can believe it, Dock was nuts. |
83. 1978 Topps #661 Grant Jackson
The Pirates donned wild uniform combinations in 1977 ... this jacket fits in with them. I'm guessing this is at Candlestick Park. |
84. 1988 Donruss #558 Jeff Robinson
Wow, the Pirates went from the best jackets to the worst during a 20-year span, but I must include this turkey since the word "Pirates" is on the front. |
87. 1972 Topps #130 Bob Gibson
I wish the jacket was buttoned up to see if it had two birds on top of a bat. |

Great list! I always liked this model sported by Dock Ellis. The script and number on the bottom of the sleeve are nice touches.
Excellent find regarding Ellis, I will add that one, thanks.
Found a really sweet Phillies jacket worn by Danny Ozark.
My last one for the day, Jeffrey Leonard.

Fun list. Hard to pick a favorite.
Thanks for those various Cardinals ... I'll add some of them where I see a subtle difference. They seem to have the same logo, but with different collars and cuffs. I won't add the one from 1962 ... no logo, although it's possible that none of their jackets had logos in 1962. I won't add the Jeff Leonard one for the Mariners ... the logo is so small that I'm not what it is. As an aside, the styling of that jacket is butt ugly. I've seen better examples for the Mariners and will add them later.
Came across this Atlanta Braves one https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/80/cid/20516/1978-Topps-38-Willie-Montanez
Yes, the 1978 Montanez is a good one, especially with the 100-year NL anniversary patch so prominent in 1976.
Hard to think of too many, if any, other teams that affixed their special season uniform patch on everything the way the Mets did with their Silver Anniversary season of 1986 https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/33527/cid/488615/1987-Fleer-Award-Winners-25-Roger-McDowell
Kansas City Athletics
| ||
Thanks for the leads on the KC A's and NY Mets. Struck out trying to find a good one for the Red Sox from '60s in the regular issue cards ... maybe there's one in the tribute/reprint cards.
Milwaukee Braves
| ||
Good find re Spahn, thanks.

Thanks for the suggested Cubs above. Tried to find a Cubs jacket from the 1960s, but no luck so far.
Albeit small, here's a Twins: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/8702/cid/561666/1988-O-Pee-Chee-Stickers-262%20/%20282-Mark-Gubicza-/-Frank-Viola

Thanks for lead on Greg Thayer, a total unknown to me ... doesn't have a Topps card. |
