I have over 67% of the set, so I might complete it someday. It's not a bad set really.

Like the set. Attempted to build one about 5-6 years ago because we had already gotten a bunch of packs for a low price. Grabbed a couple wax boxes and the collation was terrible. After opening about 3 boxes, we still didn't have close to a set (I think we were missing 15%-20% of the set). Finally just snagged a factory set for about half the price of the 3 boxes we opened. But this does mean I should have a bunch of singles available for anyone looking to put a set together. (No cards from jumbos though, sorry Greg.)

I do remember your 9 Pockets Blog redesign, it looks sharp! Who doesn't love black borders, the All-Star inserts were a big reason I bought these two boxes.
I had fond memories of the mint green here from the packs I opened as a kid, but I have to say it got pretty dull after 2 full boxes. Very similar photos too.
Collation - not great but I've had worse. Needed 18 cards after 2 boxes. Would have enjoyed a much higher insert rate, but I guess that keeps them special

Built this set through packs back in 1992 (and got the Rookie Sensations promo sheet and the extra Clemens cards), then went back and grabbed all the missing inserts a few years ago

It's funny how nostalgia works, right? There's definitely something special about early '90s inserts.
Glad to hear the collation wasn't too awful.

I got the factory set for a Christmas gift it came with the Smoke'N'Heat insert Set. A few years ago aquired a few collections with a bunch of 92 Fleer Baseand a few inserts. Also a few boxes. I have a complete set and only need about 200 cards of the Var set. and still working on the inserts.

Hi, I'm joining this thread a few months later. I've gotten interested in cards after a bit of a lull and I'm going through my inventory from the '80s and '90s. I've had an unopened 92 Fleer sitting in storage; my sister got it for me for Christmas years ago and I never got around to opening it. I figured I would recently just to get it into an album, but then going through my stuff, I realized I have a factory set of it that I bought about the same time.
I was wondering if it would be better to just open the factory set and put that into the album, or open the box and build from there and keep the factory to sell later. With the posts on this thread about the collation from the box, you may have already answered my question. I was trying to figure out which of those (set or box) would be a little more valuable, although I realize that neither would get me a lot of money.
Anyway, I figure I'll just open the set eventually once I get another binder and pages. Any insight you all might have would be appreciated.
(FTR: I think the cards look pretty good; of course, most anything would look good after that canary-yellow disaster in 1991.)

The advice depends on your collecting style. I suspect that a factory set collector would prefer the factory set in a factory box and it would be more difficult to sell in a binder. The box of packs is also probably more valuable left unopened . I enjoy building sets, so what I would do is wring every bit of value out of that box by opening it up with a friend and enjoying the rush of nostalgia that it brings- the fresh pack smell, the excitement of a Griffey Jr, W. Clark, or Tiger popping out, and the gradual process of finding cards needed for completion.
Bottom line- do what allows you to get the most (however you define it) out of your collection.

I think if you’re making a decision about 1992 Fleer, and thinking of resale value, you’re bound to be disappointed down the road LOL!
I’ve had a couple of these situations as I got back into cards and enjoyed some late 80s and early 90s cards, here’s what I do:
1) Open all the packs, have fun
2) Open the complete set, sort them all together
3) Put them in a binder slowly, remember the players, and pick the best conditioned card where you have doubles and triples
4) Add the doubles to TCDB!
