First question - Card #39. Russ is listed as an Islander because of what is written on the card back, there is no mention of the NYI on the front, since he is in a Habs outfit should he not be listed as a Canadien?
Second question - Card #398, the players are not wearing NHL jerserys so should the cards get labeled with the TIDs?
Final question, the insert sets for both Howe and Gretzky could use some work, should the name portion of each card be corrected to just their names with the title of each card being listed in Note2?
Help would be appreciated.

Card #39 is correct, last line on back is a "Traded to" line.
Card #398 is correct, much like an All-Star card, plus their names and team are listed on the back.
Yes on the Howe and Gretzky cards. I'll fix Gretzky, you fix Howe.

As is usually the case, C2C nailed it.

I'm on the fence about the Howe and Gretzky sets. From the FAQ:
For sets dedicated to a single person where the fronts have descriptions rather than the name of the person (example: 1993 Pacific Texas Express), the name fields should reflect the descriptions on the fronts of the cards.
SInce these sets are all about one person, this guideline could apply, but the cards have both the person's name and a distinguishing title, so maybe that negates the applicability.
Personally, I think that having a card described as "1992-93 Upper Deck - Wayne Gretzky Heroes - #10 - Wayne Gretzky" is redundant, so I would tend to use the titles in the card description myself.

Admin told me once, if the name(s) is on the front, use the name and put the descriptor in Note2. So I too see the name negating the FAQ rule. Yet, their 1993 Pacific Texas Express example doesn't follow with their "fronts have descriptions rather than the name.." rule. That set has Nolan Ryan's name on the fronts.

This is also the case with the single-player 9- to 15-card Star Company sets. Actually, we did put the name on the front, just each card had different text on the back. Card 1 was almost always the checklist and we'd go from there. If we didn't have a lot we could write about the guy, the last card (or 2 or 3) were just the team logo on the back with the different photos on the front. Basically (I can't think of an exception yet) ALL Star Co sets should be name only with "Checklist", "Minor League Stats", or "1986 Season Highlights" in Note2. Same with these UD Heroes insert sets. The cards were numbered and the name is on it. If we do it that way, when I go looking to add the Reggie Jackson UDH cards I have, I should have no problem finding them. I shouldn't have to worry about what other text is on the front of the card.

Think about this: Someone buys a card-lot of a single player. In that lot, is one of these cards from a single-player set. Most likely, the purchaser does not know this fact. Card is of "Player A" and is card 4. Whatever makes it easiest for someone to find THAT card when they look for THAT card should be how we list it. Which way makes that happen?

Dan-
If the title of the card is listed in the name field, and the proper PID is entered in the "Linked to PID" field, is there any reason that either search wouldn't work?
I agree in principle that we should default to whatever makes the listing the most clear. But converse to your card identification example, I would argue that checklists printed from the database should be clear as well. Take this set for example:
2001 Gold Collectibles Ltd. Dale Earnhardt
The printable view looks like this:

2001 Gold Collectibles Ltd. Dale Earnhardt Racing

NNO Dale Earnhardt |
NNO Dale Earnhardt |
NNO Dale Earnhardt |
I would argue that this checklist would be infinitely more useful:

NNO Dressed to Win |
NNO The Intimidator |
NNO The Need For Speed |
NNO Winner's Circle |
as long as the cards are properly PID linked, manually as it may be.
Edit: I just checked, and it appears that Note2 does not display on the printed checklists.

After reading this thread, I realized that I made a mistake when I created the checklist for the 2000 UD Gatorade Michael Jordan set. I went back and fixed it. Can one of you smart guys make sure I did it right?
