I think what you are all talking about here are the 1980 Donruss Prototypes that were released in a 3-card panel with Brett, Jackson and a blank card in three different sizes - 1.5x2", 2.5x3.5" and 3x4".

So with that said could the way they put the banners on that cards be a rip-off of the Topps set from that year? Oh so similar....

Great so did they have similar panels 2 years in a row? All the info I found is 1981, not just the psa photos but other discussion boards and sites

Just in 1980 as they were seeing what interest there was in different sizes of cards (silly idea to even think about going away from what is now recognized as the standard size).

In 1981, they did put out Promo card sheet of 8 cards.  These cards are # the same as the cards in the base set issue.  So the sheet would be different but if they are cut into 8 cards, it might be difficult to tell from the base set. The card #s on the sheet were: 82, 83, 93, 94, 104, 105, 115, & 116.

As well, right now the three sizes of the prototype panels are listed as 3 different sets yet they would have been released together to see what consumers liked (that was why they were produced); should they not all be one?
