1984 Topps

I'll never forget for my 7th birthday we walked to the mall in Olean, NY only to arrive at Hills where my Dad bought me a pack of 1984 Topps Football! I was so excited, my first pack ever! He did not collect and thought I was crazy. I still have all the cards from that pack too and will never part from them. Back then I didn't know how lucky I was but I pulled a Lawrence Taylor Instant Replay, Dan Marino Instant Replay, Howie Long RC and a John Elway RC in the same pack! Unreal and just insane to think about now. I'll die with these in my collection. Glad to finally be a member here at TCDB! I love cards and collecting!
I'm a baseball card collector, but the first pack of cards I ever opened was a pack of these 1984 Topps that my friend got me for my 7th birthday. In it, there was a John Elway rookie card....beginner's luck! I still have the card today, and since I was very particular with my toys even as a little guy it's still in decent condition. I'll likely never part ways with it.
Cool p_dawg68,I have that Elway card, but it is in fairly poor condition, with many creases in it,but the corners are still fairly sharp other than that.I also have about 370 different cards from this set,and also about the same number of different ones from the 1985 set too:).I got most of the cards that I have from this set from buying 45 card rack packs that were at a Giant Eagle grocery store near me in Madison,Ohio in 1984,and I think I need about 9 of them to get to having about 330 different cards in the set,and then afterwards many years later I added about 40 additional cards that I got from grab bag packs which I bought at a local card shop:).

The last card I needed to finish this set was John Elway's. I remember the indignity of having to pay $.60 for it at the time. Had I known as a Raider fan and native Clevelander what he'd do to my teams, I may have left this set incomplete. |
